Desc: Le prix de la vie: Directed by Bruno Baillargeon, Marie Suzanne Joyal. -Global recession, deficit reduction, budget cuts - Every day, as a reminder of the precariousness of social gains, alarming headlines suggest that universal health care may soon be compromised. In an ironic twist of fate, our society is now experiencing the backlash of its successes. The measures put in place by our governments over the past four decades, combined with tremendous advances in scientific research, have extended life expectancy. However, the aging population requires more care and the treatments are increasingly sophisticated and expensive. At a time when economic rhetoric is predominant, is health care on its way back to being the unattainable luxury it once was? Alternating between archival footage, interviews with various health care stakeholders and meetings with staff and elderly patients in a hospital long-term care unit, this documentary sets the stage for a reflection on what we can expect for tomorrow, in light of current trends.
